Malo Clinic shares their abstract at EAO 2022 on Hi-Fiber, the new 3D printed dental reinforcements and workflow

Exciting dental innovations were shared at European Association for Osseointegration (EAO) Congress in Geneva, Switzerland from 29 September to 1 October 2022. One
interesting technology aims to reinvent a centuries old product and workflow. Called Hi-Fiber, these novel, metal-free smile reinforcements were presented in a clinical abstract by Doctor Filipe Melo, Department of Prosthodontics and Functional Rehabilitation, Malo Clinic (Lisbon, Portugal). 

Launched in 2020, Hi-Fiber is a dental B2B brand for sleek, new reinforcement solutions by Italian tech startup Moi Dental (Moi Dental Srl.), a subsidiary of Moi Composites Srl, the spin-off of Politecnico di Milano University and maker of MAMBO, the world’s first 3D printed fiberglass boat as seen in Forbes and Business Insider. Dental professionals simply upload two stl files (a wax-up and master model) with their requirements on www.hi-fiber.it and get custom, ready to use bars for dentures or retainers delivered to their door.

“There is a good appreciation of Hi-Fiber’s workflow for our All-on-Four Treatment Concept®,” states Dr. Melo, “We can only report our initial feedback as not all clinical cases have completed the osseointegration process which takes about 4-6 months, but so far the process went smoothly, even for a long cantilever case.” Malo Clinic and Moi Dental entered an agreement in late 2021 to conduct several clinical case trials using Hi-Fiber.

The final report and full review by Malo Clinic is expected in the first half of 2023. For now, Hi-Fiber represents a potential alternative and very promising contender to modernize current workflows and replace milled dental reinforcements made from precious metal, zirconia, or chopped fibers and conventional 3D printing materials.
